Starlink is pushing its more affordable satellite Internet option further across the U.S., with states like New York, Virginia, Michigan, North Carolina, and Florida now gaining access to its $80/month Residential Lite plan. This new rollout means more users can drop their $120/month plan in favor of a cheaper alternative, if they’re willing to trade top-tier speed for decent performance.
Starlink’s 200 Mbps plan cuts cost by a third

The Residential Lite plan delivers download speeds between 80–200 Mbps and uploads up to 35 Mbps. While it’s slower than the $120/month standard Residential plan which can go beyond 400 Mbps it comes in at a full 33% cheaper while using the same Starlink Standard Kit. For most average users, that’s more than enough to handle streaming, gaming, and work-from-home needs.
Starlink previously limited this Lite tier to parts of the West and Midwest. Now, the expansion into major Eastern states marks a big shift in access.
More users now qualify for Starlink’s cheaper service
The move dramatically shrinks the coverage gaps that once left much of the East Coast out of reach of this lower-cost plan. However, there’s still a catch: Residential Lite won’t be available in high-congestion zones. In areas where Starlink’s network is already overwhelmed, the company continues to restrict access, focusing the offer on regions with enough bandwidth headroom.
Here’s how the plan stacks up:
- Price: $80/month
- Download Speed: 80–200 Mbps typical
- Upload Speed: Up to 35 Mbps
- Equipment: Same Standard Kit used for full Residential plan
- Limitations: Not available in congested zones
Eastern subscribers can now downgrade if 400 Mbps isn’t essential
If you’re already on the $120/month Starlink plan in one of these newly included states, you now have the option to switch to the Lite tier. It’s a solid option for users who don’t need ultra-high speeds and would rather cut their monthly bill by $40.
The Lite plan may not be the fastest on the market, but for rural and underserved areas, it hits a sweet spot offering reliable speed at a much more manageable price point.
