Creative Director Kevin Patzelt also gave some insights into how combat is being evolved for State of Decay 3. The development team is heavily focusing on engaging co-op combat and designing levels and environments to support fun multiplayer smashings of the undead. Combat systems, enemy behaviors, and animations are all being deepened to provide an improved moment-to-moment experience.
In addition to taking place years after the first two games, State of Decay 3 will utilize Unreal Engine 5 and feature a significantly larger open world compared to past titles.
Microsoft-owned studios Obsidian Entertainment and The Coalition are also assisting with the shared world and engine implementation respectively. Indie studios Blind Squirrel Entertainment and Wushu Studios have been brought on to support overall development as well.
While no release date was announced, the new details indicate the game is actively in development. Fans can look forward to exploring a richer zombie survival experience with deeper systems and a focus on cooperative mayhem against the ever-decaying undead hordes. Development is now well underway thanks to expanded resources from Microsoft and additional support studios
