It has been revealed that Valve has filed a new patent for the long-awaited Steam Controller 2. Dubbed the “S-Controller,” this new patent details the device’s revamped design and features.
Details of the Steam Controller 2 patent
The newly released patent images show that Valve has retained the design philosophy of the first controller but made significant improvements. The first model stood out with its dual trackpad, but some players found the lack of traditional buttons uncomfortable.

The new design appears to have increased both the sensitivity and functionality of the touchpads. It also features a traditional D-pad on the left and a more standard analog stick layout on the right. The patent also includes a touch-sensitive grip area and new rear buttons.
Valve designers previously confirmed that they were working on a new version even after the first controller was discontinued. This new patent is considered a concrete result of that work. The new controller is intended to complement the Steam Deck experience.
