Steam’s Linux share achieved a significant success, according to the platform’s November 2025 hardware survey. Linux reached 3.05% market share for the first time in history, increasing by 0.41%.
Steam’s Linux share rises while Windows declines
Linux’s rise also impacted other operating systems. Windows maintained its market leadership, falling by 0.75% to 94.84%. MacOS users also increased by 0.34%, reaching 2.11%.

The main driver behind this increase is Steam Deck. Valve’s handheld console uses the SteamOS Holo version. According to the report, SteamOS Holo alone accounts for 1.01% of the total Steam user base.
This reveals an interesting statistic: 1.01% of the total 3.07% Linux share comes from SteamOS. This means that nearly a third (32.9%) of all Linux users on Steam are actually using Steam Deck.
