The American Innovation $1 Coin Program, which has been run by the US Mint since 2018, aims to honor the innovative spirit and pioneering figures of each state, capital, and US territory. Previously, the program has featured coins featuring significant inventions and individuals, such as the light bulb for New Jersey, the Hubble Space Telescope for Maryland, and inventor George Washington Carver for Missouri. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs will be featured on the most prestigious $1 coin in this series.

Designed by Elana Hagler and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, the coin’s design features significant details. The $1 obverse depicts a young Steve Jobs sitting in a landscape overlooking the oak-covered hills of Northern California. According to the Mint, this design reflects how Jobs’s environment inspired his vision of making complex technology as intuitive and simple as nature.
Alongside the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “CALIFORNIA,” the coin will also feature “STEVE JOBS” and one of his inspirational quotes, “MAKE SOMETHING WONDERFUL.” The 2026 edition will honor Steve Jobs, as well as other significant innovations such as Dr. Norman Borlaug of Iowa, the Cray-1 Supercomputer of Wisconsin, and mobile cooling technology from Minnesota.
