World-renowned tech giant Google has officially announced that it will no longer provide updates or official support for the Android Lollipop OS. Also known as Android 5.0 and one of the most popular Android versions ever, Lollipop will slowly fade into history.
Lollipop Supported by Google for 10 Years
Introduced to users in November 2024 and bringing revolutionary innovations for its time, it’s time to say goodbye to Android Lollipop. Google has stated that it will no longer provide Google Play updates for Android 5.0.
According to Google, the number of phones with Android 5.0 Lollipop installed has dropped below 1%, and no security or Google Play updates will be provided for these devices in the new era. With these developments, the 10-year journey ends, and Android Lollipop will be completely out of our lives.
You might wonder if Android Lollipop devices that will no longer receive Google Play updates will still work. The answer is yes. Although no updates will be provided, you can continue to use many applications on your phone (unless they require you to update your Android version).
However, many banking and social media apps already require Android 10 or later. Eventually, your device may only have nostalgic value.
