Tesla continues to test its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) driving system, which is expected to be launched in Europe, in real-world conditions. Following the test it conducted around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris in recent weeks, the company has released a new video in Rome, the capital of Italy.
In the published footage, Tesla’s new driving software demonstrates its driving ability on narrow and densely trafficked streets in the city center surrounded by historical buildings. The test route in Rome extends from Capitol Hill to the Colosseum. This part of the city is known for its narrow passages, congested intersections, motorcycles and heavy pedestrian traffic.
Tesla has shared a new video showing how the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system guides vehicles in these complex road conditions, how it reacts to surrounding traffic elements and how it provides a smooth ride throughout the journey.
The test drive was conducted on a standard Model 3 coming off the production line. The hardware used is the same as the vehicles currently delivered to customers. The only difference is the software version specific to the testing process.
The current version of the system provides “supervised” driving support, but Tesla plans to offer software updates that will support fully unsupervised autonomous driving capabilities in the future.
As of today, all Tesla models—Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y—come standard with Autopilot. Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is a more advanced version of this system that both increases driving safety and provides more comfort for users on city trips.
Tesla plans to offer this new driving capability to customers in Europe via a software update after the testing process is complete. The Rome test video is available on the company’s official X account.
