The best-selling electric car model in Europe has been announced. Tesla maintained its leadership in Europe in the first half of 2023 with two models. Reaching more than 130 thousand deliveries, Model Y was by far the first.
Tesla Model Y leads Europe with 138,000 vehicles
Europe’s best-selling cars in the first half of 2023. According to data from JATO Dynamics, Tesla delivered 138,000 Model Ys in Europe between January and June. This figure shows that sales almost doubled compared to the same period last year.
The Model Y also outsold cars with internal combustion engines. It achieved a first by outselling popular vehicles in Europe such as the Dacia Sandero and Volkswagen T-Roc. According to the data, Tesla Model Y is the best-selling vehicle ever.
The second best-selling electric car in Europe was the Model 3. Other electric vehicles Volvo XC40, VW ID.4 and VW ID.3 ranked third, fourth and fifth.
Tesla’s market share rose to 2.8 percent compared to the previous year and became the manufacturer with the biggest increase among Europe’s 116 car brands. Analysts attribute Tesla’s growth to price cuts in Europe and Model Y production in Germany.

While Tesla continues to lead in electric vehicle sales, Volkswagen Group is the leading automotive group in Europe with a 19 percent market share. However, Tesla, with its accelerating growth, could overtake Stellantis and take second place by the end of the year.
