Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla made a weak financial start to 2025. The company announced significant declines in revenue and profit items in the first quarter of the year. According to the latest data, Tesla’s revenue decreased by 9% compared to the same period last year to $ 19.3 billion.

Tesla had a bad start to 2025

Tesla announced $ 21.3 billion in revenue and $ 1.39 billion in net profit in the first quarter of 2024. The figures announced this year revealed that the company’s production and sales volumes also declined. The production figure decreased by 16.3 per cent compared to last year, while the number of deliveries decreased by approximately 13 per cent.

In the company’s statement, the uncertainties in the automotive and energy sectors were emphasised. It is stated that rapid changes in global trade policies and fluctuations in the supply chain negatively affect Tesla’s cost structure and operational balance.

It is seen that this decline in the financial performance of the company is not only limited to economic and sectoral dynamics, but also significant changes in the public perception of the company. CEO Elon Musk has recently been active in US domestic politics, causing great reactions in public opinion. Due to Musk’s political discourses, Tesla faced boycott calls in some countries.

Especially sales in the European market were directly affected by this process. The company’s share prices declined in parallel with these developments. Since the beginning of 2025, Tesla shares have declined by 41%.
