Tesla’s planned autonomous transportation systems “Robotaxi” and “Cybercab” trademarks have been blocked by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The company applied to register these two terms for both vehicle models and transportation services, but both trademarks were rejected for different reasons.
Tesla’s Robotaxi and Cybercab trademarks rejected
In Tesla’s first application in October 2024, it was stated that the term “Robotaxi” could be used in connection with electric land vehicles and their parts. However, it was recently decided that the word “Robotaxi” is widely used in the sector and therefore considered a general expression.

The trademark office rejected the application, saying that no one can monopolize such terms. However, it was stated that this decision was not final and that Tesla could request a reconsideration of the decision by submitting a detailed objection file within three months.
On the other hand, Tesla faced a similar obstacle in its applications to register the “Cybercab” trademark. These applications were suspended on the grounds that they conflicted with previously filed “Cyber” themed trademark applications by other companies.
In particular, the fact that accessories and products registered in connection with Tesla’s existing “Cybertruck” brand were attempted to be used by other companies under similar naming also complicated the process.
These developments in the trademark registration process may negatively affect Tesla’s robotaxi project, which will be announced in July 2025. So what do you think about this issue? You can easily share your views with us in the comments section below.
