Ballerina, the first independent film set in the John Wick universe, drew a positive picture with the reviews it received before its release. The production, starring Ana de Armas, was mentioned with question marks for a long time due to the problems experienced during the production process. However, the first comments show that the film performed above expectations.
Ballerina movie met expectations
Ballerina brings a new character to the John Wick universe full of assassins. Ana de Armas brings to life the character named Rooney, who seeks revenge after losing her family at a young age. The film also features characters such as Winston (Ian McShane) and Charon (Lance Reddick), known from previous productions.
In addition, Keanu Reeves briefly joins the film as John Wick. The cast also includes names such as Norman Reedus, Anjelica Huston, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Gabriel Byrne. The first comments of the critics about the film show that the production stands out especially with its action scenes.
The expertly choreographed fight sequences maintain a familiar pace from the John Wick series. Ana de Armas’ performance has been generally well-received. However, it has been stated that the character does not leave as strong a mark as John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves.
The film’s critic score on Rotten Tomatoes was announced as 77 percent and its Metacritic score as 62. Although these scores fall behind the main series, Ballerina generally receives a passing grade.
