Concord cost $200 million
It has emerged that the game Concord incurred a production cost of $200 million. This jaw-dropping figure does not take into account how much Sony budgeted for marketing the game or how much it invested in acquiring the studio that decided to shut down.
Earlier reports indicated that the company invested a total of $400 million, yet still failed to achieve success. Recent reports emphasize that only half of this amount was invested.
Reports show that during the years of development for Concord, between 150 and 170 people were involved in production. This number varied depending on the creation phase of the project, which was led by experienced individuals who helped turn franchises like Halo and Call of Duty into major successes.
Shortly after Sony confirmed the decision to close Firewalk Studios and not give Concord a second chance, the developer published a farewell message on social media. The studio expressed that, despite the current outcome, it views the company’s ability to overcome significant challenges since its inception in 2018 positively.
The company reminded that the FPS only entered full production in 2022 and managed to offer an experience running at 60 FPS in Unreal Engine 5. It also noted that it took many risks by blending features of card games with the combat experiences of a shooter.
