Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi 17 series, poised to reshape the flagship smartphone market, at a launch event in China. The top-of-the-line models, the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, debuted alongside the standard Xiaomi 17. The most striking innovation of the Pro models is the circular secondary display surrounding the rear camera module.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro series comes with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
The Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are powered by the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, based on a 3nm architecture. This processor delivers unparalleled performance and efficiency. The devices come out of the box with HyperOS 3, based on Android 16 and optimized for large screens. Another software innovation is HyperIsland, which offers a similar experience to Apple’s Dynamic Island.

The Pro models feature a secondary M10 display surrounding the rear camera module. This screen, which can reach 3,500 nits of brightness, can be used not only for notifications but also for features such as setting alarms, creating AI portraits, and creating AI pets.
This feature, called “Magic Back Screen,” allows users to take selfies using the main camera and preview the captured photos on this smaller screen. Furthermore, the “Post-it Notes” feature allows users to pin important information to the rear screen with a single tap. With an additional case, the device can even be transformed into a portable game console.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max offers 2K resolution on its large 6.9-inch main screen and features Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass for screen protection. The Xiaomi 17 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a 6.3-inch main screen.
On the battery front, the Xiaomi 17 Pro is equipped with a 6,300mAh battery, while the higher-end Pro Max model boasts a massive 7,500mAh battery. Both models offer fast charging with 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. The phones are 8mm thick and weigh 192 grams.
Another detail that has excited camera enthusiasts is the triple rear camera setup on both Pro models: a Leica-designed 50-megapixel Light Hunter 950L main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom.
On the front, high-resolution 50-megapixel sensors are used for selfies and video calls. Both devices also feature an in-display fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication.
Connectivity features of the new series include 5G, 4G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, and UWB ultra-wideband technology for advanced location tracking. The Xiaomi 17 series presents technology enthusiasts with ambitious innovations in both performance and user experience.
