Volkswagen’s new electric car, the ID.2, was caught on camera during a test drive near the Nürburgring track in Germany. Although the test vehicle was covered with body panels from the Polo model for camouflage purposes, it appears to be largely faithful to the concept model introduced in 2023.
The electric Volkswagen ID.2 is coming soon
While some minor revisions are noticeable in the headlight design, the general design lines are preserved. Details on the vehicle show that it bears lines referencing the brand’s iconic models from the past, the Golf, Polo and Beetle.

The Volkswagen ID.2 will hold an important place in the brand’s entry-level electric car series. The vehicle is built on the new generation electric vehicle platform called MEB+. This platform will be used in mass production for the first time with the ID.2.
The model will be offered with two different battery options with capacities of 38 kWh and 56 kWh. The maximum range is stated as 450 kilometers. Fast charging support goes up to 125 kW. Thanks to this, the battery can reach 80% from 10% in just 20 minutes.
The vehicle, which was caught in tests around the Nürburgring, is observed to be very close to the production version. It is stated that the tests are ongoing and the final stages of the vehicle are completed before mass production. The starting price of the model in the European market will be under 25,000 euros. Sales are planned to start in early 2026.
After the ID.2, the development process of an SUV version that will use the same platform is ongoing. After this vehicle, Volkswagen aims to offer the ID.1, which it positions as a smaller and more economical model, to the market in 2027.
