Editing photos can be a complex and time-consuming process for many users. Even if we take a near-perfect photo, we might not know which settings to adjust and how. Google has begun rolling out its new AI-powered feature to more users that addresses this issue. This innovation, called “Speech Editing,” allows users to edit images using simple voice or text commands instead of complex tools.
Photo editing is getting easier
Previously available only on select Google Pixel phones, this feature is now coming to more Android phones. Instead of getting lost in photo editing menus, users can simply tell the AI what they want to do. For example, issuing a general command like “make this image better” will be enough for the AI to automatically make the necessary adjustments. This feature aims to simplify the photo editing process for everyone.

This Gemini-powered tool, called Ask Photos, can make both minor tweaks and major changes. Users can issue clear commands like “make the sky brighter” or “increase saturation.” Not only that, they can also make creative and completely scene-altering requests like “add a calming lake here” or “add a hat to the cat’s head.” This flexibility allows users of all skill levels to easily achieve their desired results.
Google also states that this feature is currently available to Android users who meet certain criteria. To take advantage of this feature, users must be over 18, located in the United States, and have their Google account language set to English (US). It also requires certain settings, such as Face Groups and location estimations, to be enabled. The company notes that the feature is being rolled out gradually and may not yet be available in all regions.

Users can manage these new Gemini features through the Google Photos app settings. By tapping on their profile photo and entering the “Photos settings” menu, you can access the “Gemini Features in Photos” section. From there, you can completely disable the “Ask Photos” feature and other Gemini-powered tools. You can also further enhance your privacy by disabling Google’s access to your queries.
This new AI-powered move by Google Photos looks set to revolutionize photo editing habits. So, what do you think of this new “Editing by Speaking” feature? Would you use these AI-powered tools when editing images? Share your thoughts in the comments.
