Samsung is turning to a brand new design approach with the Galaxy Z Fold7, the newest model of its foldable phone series. According to leaks, it will be the thinnest model of the Fold series ever produced. However, this thinness also brings some compromises. There is an important change especially in S Pen support.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 will be much thinner, but bad news for the S Pen!
Reliable leaker @kro_roe reports that Samsung will be making a “downgrade” to its S Pen technology, and that this change is necessary to make the device thinner. However, it’s not yet clear how much this change will affect the S Pen experience or how Samsung’s use of an Apple-like system will make a difference in battery life and sensitivity. According to the claims that have emerged so far:
- The Galaxy Z Fold7 will be the thinnest model in the Fold series.
- S Pen support could undergo a significant change.
- Samsung may use a different technology, removing the traditional digitizer panel.
As you know, the S Pen offers a precise and natural writing experience because of the digitizer panel integrated into the screen. However, it is claimed that Samsung may remove this panel to slim down the device and the S Pen may have a completely different working system. The new system could work similarly to Apple’s iPad and Apple Pencil combination. In other words:
Instead of a digitizer, there could be a battery in the pen itself.
The pen could work by communicating directly with the touchscreen.
This could result in the S Pen being thicker.
In short, we can see that Samsung will focus on thinness in the Fold7, but we’ll find out how this change in S Pen support will affect professional users when Samsung makes its official announcement in the summer. Until then, more information on how the new system will work will be forthcoming.
