eSIM technology is rapidly spreading globally, particularly due to the convenience it provides for international travel and communication. According to a published study, this market will reach 3 billion users by 2030.
The global eSIM market is on the rise.
However, the situation is different in Turkey. The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) has blocked access to many popular eSIM platforms in Turkey. Among the blocked services is a popular company operating in Turkey.

According to data from the analyst firm CCS Insight, 1.3 billion people currently own an eSIM-compatible phone. This figure is expected to exceed 3 billion by 2030. The number of eSIMs used solely for travel is projected to rise from 70 million in 2024 to 280 million in 2030. The market value is expected to exceed $4.4 billion.
The fact that eSIM providers offer more affordable solutions than traditional operators poses a threat to operators. Some airlines and travel-focused companies have also begun offering their own eSIM services.
This is significantly impacting mobile operators’ long-standing roaming revenues. Some major operators, such as Vodafone and Orange, are responding with similar eSIM options. Analysts say operators need to balance their strategies for acquiring new customers with product diversification.
North America leads in eSIM adoption for international travel. Currently, eSIM usage accounts for approximately one-fifth of trips, and this share is expected to rise to 41 percent by 2030. This increase is driven by the widespread adoption of eSIM-only iPhones, which have been available since 2022.
As adoption expands, eSIM options in major markets like Europe and Asia are expected to shape global purchasing preferences. It is stated that as the market reaches saturation, mergers and diversification will occur in the sector and opportunities for new players will decrease.
