PlayStation’s former manager Shuhei Yoshida drew attention with his statements about rising game prices. While Yoshida said that rising prices were inevitable, he emphasized that the real problem was that the content did not offer enough innovation.
An increase in game prices seems inevitable
In recent years, AAA games exceeding the $70 level has created debate among gamers. While Nintendo took the first step to increase prices, Sony and Microsoft companies have also implemented similar practices.

It is stated that these price increases are not surprising considering the increasing production costs of the sector. However, Yoshida emphasizes that rather than discussing prices, what is offered to gamers in return for these prices should be questioned.
Yoshida also emphasized small-scale but creative game projects in his statements. He reminded that original productions such as “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33”, developed with a team of only 30 people, received more attention compared to big-budget games.
The fact that many major studios, especially Sony, turned to Remake and Live service-focused content was also among Yoshida’s criticisms. The financially low risk of such projects prevents new and creative projects.
According to Yoshida, this situation threatens the sustainability of the sector and the trust it has established with players. Despite rising prices, the lack of creativity in content stands out as one of the main problems in the sector.
