Data released by Counterpoint shows that Apple’s new iPhone 17 series has been met with great enthusiasm by users in China. The company’s iPhone sales in October increased by a full 37% compared to the previous year.
iPhone 17 Makes Its Mark in the Chinese Market
Thanks to strong demand for iPhone 17 models, Apple accounted for 25% of all smartphones sold in China in October. This means iPhones accounted for one in every four phones sold in that month, marking the company’s first market share since 2022. Apple’s relatively small number of competitors in the premium segment was a key factor in achieving this milestone.

The new iPhone models, the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, achieved double-digit growth, led by the standard iPhone 17 model. The new series is reported to account for over 80% of Apple’s total unit sales.
This performance marked Apple’s best start to a December quarter, with total sales significantly surpassing the peak previously seen in October 2021. The iPhone surpassed one in four smartphones sold in China, a figure that only occurred once in 2022.
Meanwhile, domestic brands are also contributing to the overall growth in the Chinese smartphone market. Xiaomi, driven by the early launch of its 17 series, rose to second place in the market for the first time in over a decade.
