A feature YouTube Music users have been eagerly awaiting for years has finally begun testing. The music service is testing the ability to search within playlists. This feature has been a long-requested feature designed to make it easier for users to find specific songs within long playlists. Google’s quiet move has many users excited.
Good news for YouTube Music users: The long-awaited feature is being tested!
The new feature was first spotted by a Reddit user. The user reported seeing a new option called “Find in Playlist” in version 8.45.3 of the YouTube Music iOS app. The user, identified as being based in India, added that the feature works within playlists, but cannot search radio stations saved in the library.

While playlist searching seems like a core feature for an app like YouTube Music, it has been a major shortcoming for years. Users often had to scroll for a long time to find a specific track, especially when they had massive playlists containing hundreds of songs. Until now, this functionality was only available on desktop computers through browser extensions, and mobile app users lacked a built-in solution.
However, this new feature currently appears to be extremely limited. Other Android and iOS users on a Reddit thread have noted that they haven’t yet seen the “Find in Playlist” option. Even some users using the same version (v8.45.3) in India haven’t been able to confirm the feature. This suggests it could be an A/B testing phase, which Google commonly uses before releasing new features widely.
When the feature is released to the general public, it’s expected to be accessed by tapping the three-dot menu next to a playlist. It’s unclear when Google will release this feature to everyone. So, do you use YouTube Music? How will this feature impact your music listening experience?
