Research firm Counterpoint Research has announced the most popular mobile operating systems. According to the latest data, Huawei HarmonyOS continues its rise, leaving iOS behind in the Chinese market. On the other hand, Android continues to lose users in certain markets, although it maintains its leadership globally.
The most popular mobile operating systems have emerged
According to the research, the adoption rate of HarmonyOS is increasing rapidly. While its share in the Chinese market was 8% in the first quarter of 2023, this rate increased to 17% in the last quarter of 2024. While iOS’s market share decreased to 16% in the same period, Android still maintains its leading position.

However, it is stated that the incentives provided by the Chinese government to domestic manufacturers and Huawei’s efforts to localize its supply chain have had a great impact on the rise of HarmonyOS. Experts predict that if this trend continues, HarmonyOS’s market share will expand even further in 2025.
On a global scale, HarmonyOS’s market share remains constant at 4%, while Android and iOS continue to compete. By the last quarter of 2024, Android’s global usage rate had fallen to 74%, while iOS’s market share had risen to 22%.
Although Android is still the largest mobile operating system, it has experienced a significant decline in market share, especially in major markets such as the US and India. All these developments have revealed that competition between mobile operating systems has become even more intense.
It is already a matter of curiosity what strategy Android will follow against market losses. So what do you think about this issue? You can share your views with us in the comments section below.
