Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick is thrilled to have appointed Rod Fergusson as the helmer of Cloud Chamber. Fergusson is an incredibly experienced industry veteran. He has a strong history with the BioShock series, particularly with Infinite, and has also been involved in major projects like Gears of War and Diablo. Therefore, Zelnick believes Fergusson will be able to focus the studio’s resources on successfully completing the game. “We feel the game is on a great path to deliver something that will exceed consumer expectations,” Zelnick said during Take-Two’s Q2 2026 earnings call. Taking the series to the next level remains a key goal for the company.

Twelve and a half years have passed since the release of BioShock Infinite, the latest installment in the Immortal single-player first-person shooter series. Series creator Ken Levine dissolved his studio to form the smaller Ghost Story Games, which is currently working on Judas. Meanwhile, 2K Games announced in late 2019 that a brand new studio, Cloud Chamber, would take over the BioShock intellectual property. Cloud Chamber is known to have faced some initial challenges. For example, the project was relaunched in 2023. Furthermore, this August, a massive wave of layoffs affected approximately 80 employees. According to reliable sources, this has delayed the release of the new BioShock game until the second half of 2027. Former Studio Head Kelley Gilmore has been replaced by veteran Rod Fergusson.

The game’s release may take some time, but there are options for fans. According to Zelnick, Ken Levine’s Judas, which shares similarities with BioShock but differs in many ways, is “coming soon.” Judas is expected to be released before the new BioShock game. A BioShock Netflix film adaptation, directed by Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence, is also in development. Lawrence will begin production after finishing the next installment in the Hunger Games series.
