The new Karate Kid movie, Karate Kid: Legends, met with viewers for the first time with a press screening held before its release. The production, which draws attention with its strong cast and nostalgic theme based on the series’ past, did not receive the expected attention from critics.
Will the new Karate Kid movie be a disappointment?
Although the production set out to bring fans of the series together and blend the old with the new, initial reactions reveal that the film has difficulty achieving this goal. Karate Kid: Legends is positioned as a sequel that connects both the original trilogy from the 1980s and the remake starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith in 2010.

In the film, Ralph Macchio, Daniel LaRusso from the original series, and Jackie Chan, Mr. Han from the modern version, return to their roles. The production, which features two characters, focuses on a story centered on a new generation fighter.
However, the film has received serious criticism, especially regarding its originality. According to initial reviews, Karate Kid: Legends repeats the formula used many times in old films almost exactly. It is said that it does not offer any significant innovation in terms of the storyline, character development and thematic structure.
The film, which received a score of 59% on Rotten Tomatoes and 53 on MetaCritic, also faced negative criticism in terms of technical aspects. It is stated that the fight scenes are complicated and ineffective in terms of choreography and editing.
