Filming has concluded on The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan. Production wrapped this week after approximately seven months. The film is based on Homer’s Odyssey. The release date is set for July 17, 2026.
Christopher Nolan appears in The Odyssey
Nolan adhered to the principle of remaining faithful to the original work when filming The Odyssey. The film maintains the narrative structure and fantasy elements of The Odyssey. It was reported that the use of CGI was kept to a minimum. A giant mechanical puppet was used instead of digital effects, particularly in scenes featuring the giant character Polyphemus.

The production team worked in diverse locations to capture the atmosphere of the ancient world. Filming took place in countries such as Italy, Greece, Scotland, and Iceland. Throughout the production, natural light, historical architecture, and physical structures were prioritized to maintain a sense of authenticity to the period.
The Odyssey stars Matt Damon and Tom Holland. The cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Samantha Morton, and Zendaya. The film’s cast includes a new generation of stars, including some Nolan has worked with on his previous films.
The film was shot almost entirely with next-generation IMAX cameras. As with his previous projects, Nolan combined analog cinematic aesthetics with high-definition imaging technologies in The Odyssey.
The Odyssey will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026. What are your thoughts on this film? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
