The global tablet market grew by 8.5 percent in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, reaching 36.8 million units sold. According to the report published by Canalys; this increase was particularly affected by the increased spending during the Lunar New Year period in China and the increase in demand due to customs duties.
The tablet market continues to do well
The picture did not change in the brand rankings. Apple reached 13.7 million units sold with a 14 percent increase on an annual basis and maintained its leadership with a 37.3 percent market share. Samsung also maintained its second place with an 18 percent market share, despite a 5.2 percent decrease in sales.

Xiaomi became the notable brand of the quarter with an annual growth of 56.1 percent. The company, which sold 3.07 million tablets in total, reached a market share of 8.3 percent, leaving Lenovo behind and rising to third place. Huawei, which has shown a strong performance in China but has been declining in the global market, has fallen to fifth place after Lenovo.
Canalys does not expect a significant increase in tablet sales in the rest of 2025. The report stated that the extended lifespan of the devices and commercial uncertainties could suppress overall growth. However, mass purchases, especially from educational institutions, are expected to contribute positively to the market.
