The process of TikTok being banned in the US is evolving in a different direction with ByteDance preparing a new application. As a result of the negotiations that came to the fore after the ban decision made about a year ago, TikTok’s owner ByteDance started working to launch a separate version of TikTok that will only cover users in America. It is stated that this new application will be the version of TikTok that will be transferred to an American company.
The TikTok crisis may end soon
Initially, TikTok was planned to be completely banned on January 19, 2025. However, US President Donald Trump, who took office at the beginning of the year, gave ByteDance additional time on this issue. Negotiations between the parties continued during this period.

In a recent statement, Trump announced that TikTok will soon be transferred to a US-based company. It has not yet been announced which company the agreement was made with. However, shortly after this statement, ByteDance launched the new application plan developed only for American users.
The new app is expected to operate completely independently of the current TikTok and redirect US users to this new version. Once the transfer is complete, the original TikTok app managed by ByteDance will be blocked in the US.
However, in other countries, the company will continue its TikTok operations without interruption. This indicates that the new app will remain exclusive to the US market and that the global TikTok experience will not be affected by this change. Of course, this will be the case unless similar bans are issued by other countries.
It has long been rumored that TikTok will not be sold entirely to an American company. However, the political pressure applied by the US administration has limited the options. The softening of relations between China and the US, especially after the trade wars, has made a more conciliatory process possible between the parties. Thanks to this softening, it has become possible for ByteDance to both generate revenue from the US version of the app and maintain its position in the global market.
Details regarding the technical infrastructure, data retention policies and algorithm differences of the new app have not yet been disclosed. However, with the transfer, users in the United States will start using a TikTok-like platform with management other than ByteDance. This move both eases legal pressures and stands out as a strategic maneuver for the company to continue its growth worldwide.
