Sam Altman expressed in his statement, “I’ve immensely enjoyed my time at OpenAI. It’s been a personally transformative experience for me, and I hope I’ve contributed something to the world. The company attributed the reason for Sam Altman’s departure to inconsistencies in his communication with the board, hindering the board’s ability to fulfill its responsibilities. Reportedly, the Board no longer had confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.
The exact cause of this lack of confidence isn’t fully known. However, according to recent reports, OpenAI is spending $700,000 daily to sustain its ChatGPT service.
