CD Projekt has quietly returned to growth. Two years after laying off nearly 10% of its workforce, the studio is now staffing up in a big way, primarily to support The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, both of which remain deep in development.
The Witcher 4 already has more devs than The Witcher 3

According to the company’s H1 financial report, CD Projekt’s fantasy flagship continues to scale. As of July 31, 444 people were working on The Witcher 4. Back in April, that number was 422.
For perspective, The Witcher 3 peaked at around 240 developers during its production. In other words, the new Witcher already has nearly double the manpower, and it’s still ramping up.
CD Projekt expands Cyberpunk 2 development team
Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2 is also growing. The project jumped from 96 developers at the end of April to 116 people by the end of July. While much smaller than the Witcher team right now, it’s scaling at a steady pace.
That growth points to a long road ahead. The first Cyberpunk required about 400 developers in its final stretch, so the sequel will likely keep adding staff for years to come.
CD Projekt’s total headcount nears 800
Together, the two games account for the bulk of CD Projekt’s nearly 800 employees. That’s a far cry from 2023, when layoffs cut 9% of staff amid restructuring. Now, the studio says it expects “gradual growth” to continue through the rest of 2025.
What this means for both franchises
The numbers hint at just how ambitious both projects are:
- The Witcher 4 already surpasses The Witcher 3’s peak dev team size.
- Cyberpunk 2 is tracking to eventually match or exceed its predecessor.
- Both games remain years away but are receiving heavy investment.
CD Projekt’s strategy is clear: go big, staff up, and give its two flagship franchises the kind of resources that match their reputations.
The work is only beginning, but the message is loud: The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 won’t be small sequels; they’ll be massive undertakings.
