Popular torrent site TorrentGalaxy announced that it is struggling with financial difficulties and asked its users to donate. Founded in 2018 by former ExtraTorrent members, the site had grown over the years and had an important place in the torrent ecosystem. However, after being transferred to new owners last year, it experienced technical problems and interruptions one after another. Here are the details!
Things are not going well for TorrentGalaxy
The site’s management posted a message last weekend saying that it was having difficulty meeting server costs and asked users to donate Bitcoin, Ethereum and TRX. ‘Dear friends, unfortunately TorrentGalaxy is facing financial difficulties. We ask you to make a small donation for server costs.’

TorrentGalaxy went through a major upheaval after being taken over from its former owners in 2024. In this process, the site often entered maintenance mode, while the new management did not communicate clearly with users for a long time. The US Trade Representative (USTR) ranked TorrentGalaxy among the most notorious piracy sites and stated that the platform replaced RARBG, which was shut down in 2023.
However, outages and operational disruptions in recent months suggest that the site has suffered greatly under its new management. Users had mixed reactions to the donation campaign following the latest announcement. While some donated to support the platform, others expressed concerns such as ‘Is user data being collected under the pretext of financial difficulties?’.
Just a few days after the start of the donation campaign, it was reported that more than 90 donations were made to the site and about 3 thousand dollars were collected. While calls for donations are frequent in the torrent ecosystem, this is the first time TorrentGalaxy has faced such a serious financial crisis. For example, big sites like The Pirate Bay usually only collect around $10 a day in donations, but do not make any statements about their financial difficulties.
