Chinese automaker Wuling has officially announced the second generation of the Hongguang Mini EV. The new Hongguang Mini EV, for which reservations are open as of today, looks like it will offer an important aesthetic in design with a larger interior cabin.
What does the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV offer?
Although Wuling describes the vehicle as a 4-door, the Hongguang Mini EV will actually be offered as a 5-door hatchback. It will build on the huge success of the first-generation model, which has sold more than 1.4 million units since its debut in 2020.
The new Hongguang Mini EV is built on the company’s all-new Tianyu S platform. Accordingly, it will be sold in both 3-door and 5-door versions. Its dimensions have also increased significantly. The 5-door version is 3256 mm long, 1510 mm wide, 1578 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2190 mm.
The size increase reflects Wuling’s more spacious cabin with an updated interior. It features a new caramel color with brown and cream accents as the main color. There is also an infotainment screen mounted above the dashboard.
The second-generation Hongguang Mini EV is powered by a 30 kW electric motor fed by a 16.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack. It provides a range of 205 km at a top speed of 100 km/h. The vehicle is priced at 60,000 yuan, less than $10,000 ($9850).
