Intel is transitioning to a new era in graphics technologies based on machine learning. Intel, which already has Xe Super Sampling (XeSS) display technology for Arc graphics cards, introduced a new technology called “ExtraSS”.
What is Intel ExtraSS and what does it do?
Intel shared its new framing technology at the SIGGRAPH Asia event. ExtraSS, which works similar to Nvidia’s DLSS 3 and AMD’s FSR 3 technologies, aims to increase performance in real time.
Intel’s new system works to estimate details between frames. For this, it uses both spatial and temporal information. This allows the computer to achieve better frame rates without experiencing a bottleneck between the processor and the graphics card.
Intel stated that it tested ExtraSS using Unreal Engine. Accordingly, he claimed to have seen significant gains compared to other sampling models. Besides higher visual quality, it also reported improved rendering speeds.
ExtraSS, an open source-based solution; Available from Intel, AMD and Nvidia. This means that it will potentially be compatible with all graphics cards. However, Intel has not yet given a specific date for the release of ExtraSS.
After sharing performance measurements, we will see how ExtraSS will perform against its competitors such as FSR and DLSS.
