Microsoft’s Family Safety service, which protects children from online threats, has developed an issue affecting the Google Chrome browser. Since the beginning of June, some Windows users have reported that Chrome either won’t open or automatically closes immediately after opening.
Family Safety service blocks Google Chrome
The first complaints started to come on June 3. The browser’s failure to function normally was particularly common on systems with Family Safety active. It is stated that this issue only affects the Chrome browser, while other alternative browsers such as Firefox and Opera continue to work without problems.

Some users have temporarily changed the name of Chrome’s executable file from “Chrome.exe” to “Chrome1.exe” to overcome the issue. This solution works because it changes how the browser is recognized by the system.
Another temporary solution is to disable the “filter inappropriate websites” option in the Family Safety settings. However, this method poses serious security risks as it can allow children to access all content on the internet without control.
Although the problem does not directly direct users to the Microsoft Edge browser, it does bring to mind the aggressive methods the company has used in the past to encourage the transition from Chrome to Edge. Microsoft has not yet released an official update for a permanent solution to this problem that has been going on for over two weeks.
