Toyota is officially opening its new battery production facility in North Carolina, USA. It plans to start production and shipment this month, becoming part of the battery supply chain for electric vehicles in North America. The $14bn investment will be Toyota’s first battery production facility outside Japan.

Toyota’s new plant will produce batteries for a wide range of vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles and fully electric vehicles. The new plant will also provide employment for 5 thousand people in the region.
‘The new battery production facility is a critical part of Toyota’s strategy to move to local production and meet the growing demand for electric vehicles in North America,’ said Takeshi Uchiyamada, CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation.
The new battery plant is part of Toyota’s approach to offer products tailored to market needs through local investment and production and a multi-faceted electrification strategy. To date, Toyota’s total investment in the US has reached $49 billion, employing more than 280,000 people in the industry.
