Toyota, which has dominated the last four years of the World Rally Championship, is debuting its hydrogen-powered GR Yaris Rally2 H2 concept car at Rally Finland. The company’s long-term hydrogen technology will be tested in challenging rally conditions for the first time. The GR Yaris Rally2 H2 will compete in the event, which will take place from July 31st to August 3rd.
The GR Yaris Rally2 H2 is ready to race!
Representing Toyota’s vision of carbon-neutral motorsport, this special vehicle is built on the successful GR Yaris Rally2 chassis. Powered by an internal combustion engine running on compressed hydrogen, the GR Yaris Rally2 H2 maintains its classic engine sound and driving dynamics while producing virtually zero emissions. The vehicle was built at TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s development center in Finland and tested on local stages similar to the Rally Finland.

The GR Yaris Rally2 H2 will make its public debut on Thursday evening during the Harju stage of Rally Finland, held in Jyväskylä city center. This special stage will be featured again on Friday during the SS10 edition of the rally. Four-time World Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen, currently Deputy Team Director of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, will be at the wheel.
With this initiative, Toyota is extending its multi-mobility strategy, comprising full hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fully electric, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, to the rally arena. By enabling the testing of carbon-neutral technologies in real-world road and race conditions through motorsport, the company is taking another significant step toward its sustainable future goals.
