A new immigration process is being launched in the United States for high-income foreigners. With the new executive order signed by President Donald Trump, a special program called the “Gold Card” is being implemented. Under the program, foreigners who make payments of at least $1 million will be able to obtain permanent residency in the US through an expedited process.
US Launches Gold Card
The Gold Card program was first introduced by President Trump in February. The executive order makes the program official. The minimum application amount for individuals, which will be administered through the Department of Commerce, is $1 million. Companies can sponsor their employees for Gold Cards with a minimum contribution of $2 million.

The official website created to promote the program features a gilded card featuring President Trump’s photograph and signature, an eagle, and the Statue of Liberty. The slogan below the card reads, “Unlock Life in America.”
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced that a total of 80,000 Gold Cards will be issued. According to Lutnick, applications will be reviewed by the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security. Applicants will also be charged a $15,000 review fee. Those who pass the approval process will be granted legal permanent resident status, or green card holders.
The Gold Card was designed to replace the current EB-1 and EB-2 visa categories, designed for individuals with extraordinary abilities. These visa types included special quotas for scientists, artists, entrepreneurs, and high-skilled professionals. In the new system, financial contribution becomes the primary criterion for evaluation.
This decision, which represents a fundamental change in US immigration policies, is likely to be met with considerable interest, particularly among the business community and high-income individuals. However, the impact of the Gold Card on social equality, justice, and other components of the immigration system remains a matter of debate.
The full implementation date of the program, the application process, and other details will be clarified in the coming weeks.
