Shortly after Nintendo introduced the Switch 2 yesterday, Donald Trump announced new and comprehensive tariffs at the White House. Nintendo, on the other hand, is currently manufacturing consoles in Vietnam and Cambodia after shifting the majority of its production from China.
The new reciprocal tariffs announced by Trump will apply an additional 34 percent to China, an additional 46 percent to Vietnam, and an additional 49 percent to Cambodia. Moreover, these rates are added to the existing tariffs. The frequent preference of Vietnam and Cambodia for production may also increase the final price of the Switch 2 in the US market.
Nintendo Switch 2 US price may increase significantly!
The official launch price of the Switch 2 has been announced as $449.99. While the original Switch was $299.99, the new model is already 50 percent more expensive. Despite this, experts say that if the tariffs go into effect completely, the price of the console could increase to $630 to $670. It is common for manufacturers to pass on these additional costs to consumers.

The National Bureau of Economic Research’s study on the tariffs imposed on China during Trump’s first term as president also points to this conclusion. It is possible to make the same calculation for Switch 2 games. Mario Kart World will hit the shelves for $79.99. When the tariff is added, this game could rise to around $110 to $120.
It is known that Nintendo shipped a significant amount of consoles to the US before these tariffs were officially approved. According to information reflected in the press, the company brought around 383 thousand Switch 2s to the US in just five days in January.
In this way, it is possible to partially avoid high tariffs in the first wave of sales. However, considering that the original Switch sold 4.8 million units in the US in just its first nine months, it is not clear how long Nintendo’s stocks will last.
It is also not clear whether the tariffs announced by Trump will definitely come into effect. Authorities are said to be implementing a 10 percent global tariff on April 5, with additional rates for countries like Vietnam and Cambodia set to go into effect on April 9. However, these dates could change at the last minute due to cancellations, postponements, or other negotiations that have been seen in past examples.
It is thought that Nintendo took these possibilities into account when setting the $449.99 price tag. How much of these extra costs the company will pass on to consumers, how long it will take for its stock to run out, and whether the Trump administration will insist on tariffs will determine the Switch 2’s final price.
