The 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics has been awarded to three individuals, as announced through the Nobel Prize’s official social media account. The winners were revealed during a press event held at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Among the recipients is a Turkish economist.
Daron Acemoğlu Receives Nobel Prize in Economics
The 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded to Prof. Dr. Daron Acemoğlu, Prof. Dr. Simon Johnson, and Prof. Dr. James Robinson. The trio received the award for their groundbreaking research on “How institutions are formed and how they impact prosperity.”
Their research aimed to uncover the extent to which institutions are a factor in a society’s economic performance and overall prosperity. Last year, the Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded to Harvard University economist Claudia Goldin for her work on women’s role in the labor force.
The announcement generated significant buzz on social media, with prominent figures congratulating Acemoğlu. This award marks the first time a Turkish economist has received a Nobel Prize in economics. Previously, Aziz Sancar won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2015, and Orhan Pamuk won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
