Another important step has been taken to strengthen the Turkish Navy’s power at sea. The new generation submarine TCG Piri Reis officially joins the Turkish Navy. In addition, flag hoisting and navigation experiments have begun for TCG Hızır Reis, while TCG Murat Reis has entered the pool equipping process.
TCG Piri Reis joins the Turkish Navy
TCG Piri Reis will significantly increase Turkey’s defense power at sea with its technology and capabilities. Piri Reis, which was built at Gölcük Shipyard Command with domestic facilities, is also of particular importance as it has torpedo tubes for the first time in Turkey.
The submarine, which will play a critical role in the protection of the Blue Homeland, will be able to remain underwater for weeks thanks to its Air Independent Propulsion System (AIPS). During this time, it will not need any external resources.
One of the most important features that distinguishes Piri Reis from other submarines will be its low-noise navigation capability. In this way, the submarine, which can proceed silently without being caught by enemy radars, can be used in covert operations.
Equipped with high-speed torpedoes and the ability to launch guided missiles from the sea surface, Piri Reis will pose a great threat to enemy elements.
With a length of 67.6 meters and a height of 13.1 meters, Piri Reis draws attention with its underwater displacement of 2,13 tons. With a crew capacity of 27 people, the submarine can be used effectively in long-term missions.
TCG Piri Reis was not the only submarine commissioned at the ceremony. Refueling ships and the world’s largest submarine pool were also put into service of the Turkish Navy. With a capacity of 3 thousand tons, this pool will play an important role in the maintenance and repair of new generation submarines.
