Turkey is preparing to make a comprehensive investment in solar cell production in order to reduce external dependency. According to the data announced by the Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, the investment of approximately 100 billion TL to be made by five companies will both increase the localization rate in energy technologies and make significant contributions to the economy.
Turkey makes a breakthrough in solar cell production
There are currently many companies in Turkey that produce solar panels. However, the production of solar cells, which are the basic component of these panels, can be done on a limited scale. New investments also aim to close this gap.

The companies included in the project and the cities where investments will be made have been finalized:
Alfa Solar Energy: $390 million – Kırklareli
Astronergy High Technology: $584 million – Adana
CW Solar Cell Energy: $520 million – Antalya
Elin Semiconductor Technologies: $387 million – Sivas
Schmid Pekintaş Solar Energy Systems: $683 million – Düzce
It is stated that with the completion of these projects, more than 20 thousand people will be directly employed and an annual current account deficit contribution of $12 billion will be provided. These investments can make Turkey a regional production base for solar energy components.
Currently, there is only one integrated solar cell factory belonging to Kalyon PV in Ankara. It is also known that Smart Güneş is preparing for a similar facility in İzmir. So what do you think about these investments? You can easily share your views with us in the comments section below.
