Türksat 6A, Turkey’s first domestic and national communication satellite, starts to provide service as of today. With a 15-year lifetime, the satellite will provide a significant expansion in Turkey’s satellite capacity with a coverage area of 5 billion people.
Türksat 6A officially enters service
The development process of Türksat 6A has been recorded as the most comprehensive step in Turkey’s space journey, which started in 1994. In the process, which started with satellites such as Türksat 1B, 1C and 2A, projects with an increased localisation rate were implemented over time. However, 6A will be the first communication satellite developed entirely with domestic facilities.

The satellite was produced with the contribution of organisations such as ASELSAN, TAI, TÜBİTAK UZAY and CTech. According to the statement of Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Türksat 6A emerged as a result of an engineering study using 84 different domestic equipment with a localisation rate of over 80 percent.
After being transported to the USA on 4 June 2024 by Antonov 124 type aircraft, the satellite was sent into space on 9 July 2024 at 02.30 on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. The satellite, which was first placed in the temporary 50 degrees east orbit, passed a series of tests here.
Türksat 6A will serve Turkey and the countries in its coverage area in basic areas such as television broadcasting, internet access, data transmission and mobile communication during the 15-year period it will be in orbit.
The satellite is designed to have a power capacity of approximately 8.4 kilowatts. During its service period, it will provide significant support to existing communication satellites. So what do you think about this issue? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
