Ubisoft is again on the agenda with layoffs: A studio in the UK has closed, leaving 185 employees unemployed,
Although we have heard some positive news recently, it seems that Ubisoft’s long-standing financial difficulties continue. Among the departments affected by the layoffs are Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Reflections. In particular, we know the Düsseldorf studio for its strategy and city building games. Therefore, it remains unclear whether the layoffs will have an impact on the Anno 117 project, which is still in development.

Ubisoft Stockholm is a new studio founded in 2017, but has not released an independent game to date. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, this studio will also be affected by the loss of labour. The most striking change is the complete closure of the Ubisoft Leamington studio.
The UK-based studio had previously developed games such as the DJ Hero series, and during the Ubisoft era, it offered support for major projects such as Star Wars Outlaws, Skull and Bones, Far Cry 5, Avatar and Tom Clancy’s The Division. In short, the company, facing its fifth wave of layoffs since 2022, has significantly reduced the number of employees.
While the company had 20,279 employees in 2022, this figure had dropped to 18,666 in the autumn of 2024. The year 2024 was recorded as a year full of financial and commercial failures for the giant company. So what do you think about this? You can write your opinions in the comments section below…
