Konami’s popular game eFootball seems to be getting ready to introduce a new revenue model. According to industry sources, eFootball 2025 will allow players to earn in-game rewards by watching ads.
Ad-based reward system may come in eFootball 2025
This system, which is common in the mobile gaming market, is also available in EA’s games such as FIFA Mobile. However, it means a significant change for the eFootball series. Until now, the game has been known to stay away from monetization methods that annoy players.
According to the leaked files, ads will be personalized according to the country players choose. The region switching feature Konami recently added to the game will also be in line with this personalization strategy. This is also in line with the patents Konami received last year. In the patents, the company included a system where ads could be adjusted according to user preferences, demographic information and location.
Some players have reported seeing the first signs of this ad-based reward system in eFootball’s latest update, v4.3.0. Although there is no conclusive evidence, eFootball has been planning the change for a long time, with the implementation of this system in 2025. The company’s aim will be to generate additional revenue and give free-to-play players more options for progression.
While ad-based rewards are advantageous for players, it is unclear how eFootball users will react to this innovation. There is also the possibility that ads will negatively impact the game experience.
