Tesla has recently put its electric pickup model Cybertruck into mass production and delivered it to its first customers. The vehicle, which was launched with great enthusiasm, was discovered to have an unprecedented design flaw. Owners say there are unexpected problems with the hubcaps.
Tesla Cybertruck’s aero wheel covers wear out
Images shared by accessory company T Sportline have revealed visible damage to the sidewalls of Cybertruck tires. The aero hubcaps of the vehicles, which have not even completed 3500 km, were found to have plastic and rubber burns.
The so-called sidewall in the rim area is a flexible section that allows the tire to adapt to the road and cushion impacts. In Cybertruck, however, the hubcap was too close to the sidewall. This causes the sidewall to come into contact with the plastic cover.
In a warning to Tesla Cybertruck owners, industry experts recommend removing the aero hubcaps to prevent tire damage. While the sidewall scratches were at first only cosmetic, the abrasion exposed the inner steel cords and compromised the tire.
This unexpected flaw highlights the challenges of designing a completely new vehicle like the Cybertruck. The electric pickup, which attracts attention with its angular body, has become a controversial topic with its hubcaps. Tesla is expected to address this issue and replace the wheel free of charge.
The car, which has hard and sharp lines instead of soft edges like the 3D graphics games released in the 1990s, is reminiscent of an airplane when viewed from the front. Although the design of the car was subjected to great criticism when it was first shown, it should be noted that Tesla was praised during the sales process.
