According to the news from the Sony front, the company’s highly anticipated Until Dawn film adaptation will face the audience with a very different story and a new cast of characters. Ashley Brucks, head of Sony’s film department, who made statements at CES 2025, gave important information about the film’s ties to the game.
Until Dawn will not use the game’s script
Ashley Brucks stated that the film will present a completely new story while remaining faithful to the Until Dawn universe. Stating that Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions are working in close co-operation, Brucks said: ‘The key to successfully adapting these games is to respect the source material. The Until Dawn film will carry the essence of the game and fan-favourite elements, but will offer a fresh experience with a new story and characters.’
It was stated that the director of the film, David F. Sandberg, breathed new life into the series by carefully selecting elements that reflect the spirit of the game. ‘We took the basic theme of a group of friends facing terrifying threats and built a truly frightening and impressive story around these elements,’ said Brucks.
Peter Stormare, who gave life to the character of Dr Hill in the game, will appear with the same character in the film. ‘This film is like a love letter to the horror genre and the spirit of Until Dawn… Filled with brand new characters and story, this production will surprise you whether you’re a long-time fan or discovering the series for the first time,’ Stormare said.
According to the statement from the Sony front, the film is scheduled to be released on 25 April 2025. This production, which will offer a completely new experience for fans of the game, will also appeal to audiences who do not know the series.
