Nokia has been making significant investments in 5G infrastructure in recent years. Due to this issue, the company entered into legal proceedings with some companies that were branded under the BBK Electronics umbrella in previous years. In this context, Vivo, along with Oppo and OnePlus, who are involved in the legal process, is also added from the same parent company.

Vivo will not be able to sell in Germany due to the Nokia case

Vivo underwent a court process at the Mannheim Regional Court in April. The court decided to ban the brand’s sales in the country. Vivo is ceasing sales in the country by implementing the decision given due to the Nokia case.

What happened?

We need to mention that Nokia has made significant investments in 5G infrastructure. According to reports that emerged towards the end of last year, these investments reached the level of 129 billion euros. The company was unable to take the desired steps initially due to patent disputes with Oppo. This situation was taken to court. Then, in July of last year, Oppo and OnePlus were found to be at fault and were banned in Germany.

Nokia filed lawsuits against Oppo and OnePlus (both under the BBK umbrella) in 4 different countries for 4G and 5G patents. Likewise, Oppo responded to Nokia with a lawsuit filed in 9 different countries. In fact, as mentioned above, an important development took place in July, and the two Chinese manufacturers were banned in Germany on the grounds of patent infringement.

The situation was quite tense for other brands under the BBK umbrella as well. Now, Vivo has taken the issue to court because it refused to pay the licensing fees requested for Nokia patents. The company has currently stopped sales by implementing the court decision on its official website.
