Counterpoint Research (CR) has published its report on the Chinese smartphone market for 2024 and revealed some important data.Throughout the year, vivo held the lead with a 17.8% market share, while Huawei came in second with 16.3%.Third place went to Xiaomi with 15.7% market share. One notable difference is that Xiaomi, which ranked third in the CR report, did not make the top five in the Canalys report. Apple was fourth with 15.5%, followed by Honor with 15% and Oppo with 14.3% market share.This data confirms vivo’s year-on-year leadership.
vivo maintains its leadership in the Chinese smartphone market
According to CR data, compared to 2023, Huawei achieved the largest growth of 36.4%.Xiaomi grew by 10.2% and vivo by 7%, while other brands experienced a decline in 2024 with fewer shipments.Apple recorded the biggest decline at 12.6%, while Oppo and Honor saw a contraction of 10.4% and 2.8% respectively.
In the last quarter of 2024 (October-December), Huawei took the lead with 18.1% market share. It was followed by Xiaomi with 17.2% and Apple with 17.1%. vivo fell to fourth place with 16.3%, while Honor had 13.6% and Oppo 12.5% shares.
Apple, on the other hand, was the brand that suffered the most losses with a decline of 18.2%, while Honor declined by 12.8% and Oppo by 9.3%.
Huawei’s success, especially in the last quarter of the year, and vivo’s year-long leadership once again demonstrated that competition between brands in the Chinese smartphone market is fierce. Xiaomi’s strong performance and Apple’s decline were among the other highlights.
