Volkswagen will introduce the concept version of its entry-level electric car ID.1 in March. The German manufacturer shared the first drawings of the model’s design and revealed the general outlines of the car. Planned to be launched in 2027, the model is expected to be offered for sale in the European market at a price below 20,000 euros.

Volkswagen has not yet officially confirmed the name of the ID.1, but the brand has applied for a patent for the name ‘ID.EVERY1’ in Europe. Although this name is used for the introduction of the concept model, it seems likely that the ID.1 name will be preferred in the mass production version.

The German manufacturer had initially planned to develop ID.1 together with Renault. However, with the two companies parting ways, Renault has turned to the new electric Twingo project, which will be launched in 2026. Renault CEO Luca de Meo described the split as a ‘missed opportunity’, while Volkswagen continued to develop the project in-house.
ID.1 will use Volkswagen’s MEB Small platform. Unlike the normal MEB platform, this front-wheel-drive structure will also be connected to the ID.2 model. Although exact information about the battery capacity was not shared, the ID.2all model offered a range of approximately 450 kilometres. In terms of charging time, it is stated that the battery can be filled from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in about 20 minutes.

Volkswagen also exhibited the ID.1 model at a meeting with factory employees in Wolfsburg. CEO Thomas Schäfer emphasised that the new model will be an affordable and high-quality option for Europe.
In the drawings shared regarding the design of the car, a more angular structure draws attention unlike the rounded lines in the ID series. The headlights with 3D graphics on the front are enclosed in a black frame with the Volkswagen logo.
The bumper design features vertical lighting and large air intakes. Wide fenders and large rims on the side profile support the dynamic appearance of the vehicle. At the rear, a straight roofline and a body-coloured boot spoiler stand out.
