The collaboration between Volkswagen and XPeng is deepening and has become a hot topic in the automotive world. Hundreds of Volkswagen engineers have already moved to XPeng Motors’ headquarters in Guangzhou. Here are the details…
Volkswagen and XPeng’s partnership is progressing
It is clear that Volkswagen aims to strengthen its position in the Chinese market through its partnership with XPeng. Last July, Volkswagen announced plans to invest a substantial $700 million in XPeng Motors.
With this investment, they will develop two B-segment electric vehicles based on XPeng’s G9 platform, smart cockpit, and advanced driver assistance systems software, which will be sold under the Volkswagen brand in the Chinese market. In February 2024, XPeng and Volkswagen announced a strategic technical cooperation and joint procurement plan.
This agreement not only accelerates the joint development of the two B-segment electric vehicles but also lays the foundation for broader and deeper strategic collaborations. In April, XPeng and Volkswagen signed the latest strategic partnership framework agreement in the field of electronic and electrical architecture technology.
Under this new agreement, the two companies will jointly develop a new electronic and electrical architecture platform based on XPeng’s next-generation EEA architecture. This platform is expected to be used in Volkswagen-branded electric vehicles produced in China starting in 2026.
The partnership between Volkswagen and XPeng is a significant step not only for the two companies but also for the automotive industry as a whole. The collaboration between these two giants on such innovative projects will pave the way for even more impressive technologies in the future.
