Volkswagen has formed a strategic partnership with Chinese artificial intelligence and intelligent driving technology firm Horizon Robotics. The two companies will jointly work on an autonomous driving solution called Horizon SuperDrive (HSD). This next-generation driving technology will allow Volkswagen to make a stronger entry into the Chinese market.
Volkswagen to collaborate with Chinese in intelligent driving
The Horizon SuperDrive system will be developed by CARIZON, a joint venture between Volkswagen’s software subsidiary CARIAD and Horizon Robotics. This will allow the German automotive giant to integrate intelligent driving features into its vehicles more quickly and efficiently.

The collaboration between Volkswagen and Horizon Robotics began in 2022. Following the initial agreement between the two companies, the joint venture called CARIZON was established in 2023. CARIZON focuses on Level 2+ intelligent driving systems powered by Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6 chip.
The first tests of the innovative system have already begun. This system will form the basis of a new compact electric vehicle model, which is expected to be launched in 2026. The new vehicle will be built on Volkswagen’s CEA (Compact Electric Architecture) architecture.
The Horizon SuperDrive (HSD) system offers significant innovations not only in software but also in hardware. HSD; Powered by the Journey 6P chip, it will make the driving experience more fluid, stable and efficient.
