Volkswagen has taken a significant step in its affordable electric vehicle project by announcing the release of its new electric vehicle, planned for 2027. After halting discussions with Renault, the company decided to continue its project of producing an affordable electric vehicle priced under 20,000 Euros on its own. Here are the details of the development…
Affordable Volkswagen electric vehicle is coming in 2027
Volkswagen, after ceasing talks with Renault, is now producing an electric vehicle that will cost under 20,000 Euros on its own. The company plans to compete with China’s low-cost electric vehicles with this new model. Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume emphasized that this project is “from Europe, for Europe.”
The ID.2 model, which holds a significant place in Volkswagen’s electric vehicle strategy, will be launched with a starting price of 25,000 Euros. However, the affordable Volkswagen electric vehicle model to be introduced in 2027, although referred to as ID.1, has not yet been officially named. Volkswagen brand manager Thomas Schaefer says that this new “entry-level” electric vehicle will set high standards in technology, design, and quality.
Schaefer also emphasized that for electric mobility to succeed in Europe, political support and competitive conditions are necessary. In other words, it will be difficult without government support. Volkswagen believes that the new customs duties the European Union plans to apply to electric vehicles produced in China will not be effective in the long run.
The company predicts that Chinese car manufacturers will eventually set up factories in Europe. Therefore, it has focused on reducing costs. According to Volkswagen, European car manufacturers have about 2-3 years to prepare for cost competition.
The launch of Volkswagen’s new affordable electric vehicle could lead to a major shift in the electric vehicle market. Do you think Volkswagen’s strategy will be successful? You can share your opinions in the comments section below.
